Website redesign, speed and SEO: plan a safe relaunch

A slow website or an outdated design can make it harder for visitors to become customers. Before rebuilding, identify the problem: large images, delayed rendering, confusing navigation, missing service information or a difficult enquiry flow. A redesign should address those problems and preserve useful existing content.

Audit before changing the design

Review the pages that receive visitors and enquiries. Measure loading on a mobile connection, inspect navigation and test forms. Separate a design problem from a hosting, content or integration problem so the new scope solves the cause.

  • Current page addresses, service content and project names.
  • Pages that attract organic visitors or links from other sites.
  • Image sizes, initial loading and page-to-page navigation.
  • Forms, booking flows and analytics events.

Keep useful search signals through the move

Keep existing URLs when they still fit. When an address changes, map it to the relevant new page with a permanent redirect. Preserve meaningful service text and project details. Check canonical links, language alternatives, sitemap entries and crawl access before releasing the replacement.

A redesign does not automatically improve rankings, and careless URL changes can interrupt discovery. The migration plan should be part of the development scope.

Make speed part of acceptance

Use appropriately sized images, avoid unnecessary client-side code and cache public pages where suitable. Check the first page load as well as internal navigation. Compare the same device and connection before and after, and use real-user measurements when they become available.

Check the site after launch

Test old links, contact forms and language switches. Submit the updated sitemap and review crawl errors and enquiry events. 566dev offers website renewal and technical SEO services; share the current site and the problems visitors encounter to define the work.

Questions before you start

Will redesigning my website improve its Google rankings?
It may help if the work improves useful content, crawl access and the visitor experience. A new design alone does not guarantee a ranking increase.
Can an existing website be made faster without a full rebuild?
Often, targeted image, caching or code changes can help. Audit the current site first to determine whether optimisation or a rebuild is appropriate.
